Job summary

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is seeking a Certification Specialist to review organic system plans, inspect reports, and support certification services across the MOFGA Certification Services territory. The role emphasizes compliance with USDA organic standards and collaboration with inspectors.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to communicate effectively, especially in writing.
• Knowledge of USDA-NOP standards for crops, maple syrup, processing.
• Experience with organic certification or regulatory compliance and inspections.
• Able to travel to attend meetings, trainings, conferences.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical reviews of organic system plans and communicate results to producers.
• Review inspection reports and communicate outcomes to producers.
• Explain certification standards and processes to applicants and promote technical services.
• Pursue adverse actions with clients in coordination with staff.
• Maintain auditable files and client tracking.
• Conduct inspections or residue sampling as time allows.
• Participate in internal audits and accreditation processes.
