Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking an OP/ED/OBS Coding Auditor for a remote, work-from-home role. You will review and ensure APC/DRG coding accuracy across ambulatory records, while maintaining AHIMA standards and staying current on CMS rules.

You will educate staff and collaborate with coding and billing teams to improve quality. The role requires 5+ years of acute care coding experience and RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials, with strong communication and a detail-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials required.
• 5+ years of acute care facility coding experience.
• Strong prioritization and ability to handle shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to educate medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient and outpatient records to ensure proper coding & charging guidelines and correct DRG/APC assignments.
• Provide coding quality information and trend analysis reports to Coding Manager.
• Communicate and educate Medical Staff on ICD-10/CPT coding questions and assignments.
• Draft hospital-specific coding guidelines and procedures as needed with management.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss coding problems, changes or issues.
• Perform routine coding & abstracting as needed.
• Maintain AHIMA accreditation and adhere to AHIMA's Standards of Ethical Coding.
• Stay current on OIG, CMS, and IPPS/OPPS rules and coding updates.
• Assist Coding Manager with coder education and quality plan development.
• Help orient newly hired coders and act as an educational resource for staff.
