Job summary

Abert Caraway, PLLC is seeking a full-time attorney to join its oil and gas practice. The attorney will examine title and prepare oil and gas title opinions, including acquisition, drilling, division order, supplemental, and other title opinions, while assisting clients with upstream matters.

The position is 100% remote and full-time; compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in Texas and membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
Experience examining oil and gas title and preparing title opinions is preferred.
Prior experience working as a landman or in a comparable oil and gas land role is also strongly preferred.
Licensure to practice law in New Mexico is a plus.
Careful attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex chains of title.
Strong analytical and writing skills
Ability to work independently while producing accurate, high-quality work.

Responsibilities

Examine complex mineral, leasehold, royalty, overriding royalty, and working interest title.
Prepare acquisition, drilling, division order, supplemental, and other oil and gas title opinions.
Analyze oil and gas leases, assignments, deeds, probate proceedings, pooling instruments, operating agreements, and other title-related documents.
Identify and clearly explain title defects, ownership issues, and curative requirements.
Advise operators, landowners, and other clients regarding general upstream oil and gas matters.
Work collaboratively with the firm’s attorneys, landmen, brokers, and clients to complete projects accurately and efficiently.
