Job summary

Abert Caraway, PLLC is seeking a full-time attorney to join its oil and gas practice, specializing in examining title and preparing oil and gas title opinions for acquisition, drilling, division order, and related matters.

The position is 100% remote. Candidates must hold a Texas law license; NM licensure is a plus. Strong writing and analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently are required. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
• Active license to practice law in Texas (State Bar in good standing) preferred.
• Experience examining oil and gas title and preparing title opinions preferred.
• New Mexico licensure a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex title chains.
• Excellent written communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work.

Responsibilities

• Examine complex mineral, leasehold, royalty, overriding royalty, and working interest title.
• Prepare acquisition, drilling, division order, supplemental, and other oil and gas title opinions.
• Analyze oil and gas leases, assignments, deeds, probate proceedings, pooling instruments, operating agreements, and related title documents.
• Identify and explain title defects, ownership issues, and required curative actions.
• Advise operators, landowners, and clients on upstream oil and gas matters.
• Collaborate with firm attorneys, landmen, brokers, and clients to complete projects accurately and efficiently.
