Job summary

UnitedHealth Group offers a National Remote coding opportunity, enabling telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. The role requires AHIMA or AAPC credentials and 3+ years in acute care or related coding environments, with strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.

You will review and resolve coding inquiries, ensure proper reimbursement, and participate in ongoing coding education, with a standard 8:00 am–5:00 pm schedule and potential overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active coding credentials through AHIMA or AAPC (CCS/CIC/CPC/COC/CPC-P/RHIT/RHIA or equivalent).
  • Experience in acute care hospital, outpatient, or professional-fee coding environments is required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and medical necessity guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and encoder software.

Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve charge inquiries for accuracy and compliance.
  • Review SUR and Medical Necessity held accounts to support accurate claims processing and reimbursement.
  • Assign and validate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers for outpatient and hospital-based services.
  • Identify coding opportunities, documentation deficiencies, and reimbursement-impacting issues.
  • Prepare and provide feedback on documentation when clarification is needed.
  • Support coding education, training, and departmental meetings.
