Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a SDS/Observations Medical Coder for a full-time telecommute role based in the United States. You will identify correct CPT/ICD-10 codes for outpatient Ambulatory Observation and ensure compliance with coding guidelines while maintaining quality and productivity.

A sign-on bonus of $3,000 is available for external applicants. The position requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials, 2+ years of outpatient coding, and proficiency with Windows, Excel, and EMR systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• Minimum 2 years in outpatient facility coding.
• 2+ years in Same Day Surgery Coding.
• 2+ years ICD-10 experience.
• Proficiency with Windows, MS Excel, and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 coding assignments for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services per guidelines.
• Analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand Medicare APC codes and apply coding knowledge accordingly.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per Optum360 standards.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians as needed.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge from QM Manager and Directors.
