Job summary

UCSF Health, AG is seeking a Patient Record Abstractor / Medical Coder for a fully remote, 3-month contract. The role focuses on coding diagnoses, procedures, and services using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS, with emphasis on accuracy and timely processing within the Revenue Management Operations (FPRMO) team.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in revenue cycle coding, strong communication and analytical skills, and relevant certifications (CPC, CCS-P, CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA).

Qualifications

• 2-5 years revenue cycle professional fee coding experience or equivalent experience/training.
• Strong communication skills to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information.
• Ability to prepare informative reports and presentations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate workflows and systems and propose solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate on complex projects across business and clinical areas.
• Must pass UCSF Medical Center computer systems and UCSF coding and billing applications training.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding conventions, and clinical documentation requirements.
• Healthcare-related work experience preferred.
• Certifications: CPC, CCS-P, CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA (or equivalent).
• OBGYN coding experience and inpatient coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and code medical records to assign CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS codes.
• Maintain or exceed 95% accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Collaborate with clinicians and staff to resolve documentation queries.
• Audit data and support revenue cycle management.
• Address payor inquiries and resolve claim edits to ensure timely billing.
• Utilize dashboards to monitor charge capture, errors, and throughput.
• Analyze charge integrity and reconciliation across systems.
