Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking an experienced medical coder to perform in-depth daily coding for inpatient and outpatient services, including obstetric cases. The role involves coding complex procedures, abstracting CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS with accuracy, and communicating with providers for clarification.

Epic systems experience is preferred. The ideal candidate holds CPC/CCS/RHIT/RHIA credentials and has at least three years of obstetric coding experience.

Qualifications

• Certified professional coder credentials required (CPC/CCS/RHIT/RHIA).
• Minimum 3 years obstetric coding experience.
• Strong CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-depth complex daily coding of inpatient, outpatient, deliveries (global and non-global).
• Code complex procedures from physicians via Epic Charge Review, Single Path and Surgical Case Tool.
• Abstract CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and Modifiers accurately per clinical notes and payer.
• Query providers and other clinical staff for clarification as needed.
