Job summary

UCSF Health seeks a Patient Record Abstractor/Medical Coder for its Faculty Practice Revenue Management Operations (FPRMO). The role codes diagnoses and procedures using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS across UCSF locations and affiliated clinics.

You will work with clinicians and administrative staff to ensure accurate, compliant coding and participate in audits to improve data quality. Fully remote, 3-month engagement.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of revenue cycle professional fee coding experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding conventions, and clinical documentation requirements.
• Ability to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information clearly.
• Experience with internal/external audits and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with UCSF computer systems and coding/billing applications.

Responsibilities

• Work in moderate work queues daily.
• Maintain or exceed a 95% accuracy rate.
• Ensure timely processing of case volumes and efficient coding.
• Collaborate with clinicians and staff to resolve documentation queries.
• Review APeX PB Charge Edit and RFI work queues as assigned.
• Analyze charge integrity and reconcile data for the center's revenue cycle.
