Tailscale is seeking a skilled full-time Software Engineer to join the Dataplane Engineering Team. You will design, build, and test core client networking software, focusing on scalable connectivity between clients and network infrastructure.

You have deep networking knowledge, experience with Go or low-level languages, and a track record in large-scale distributed systems. This remote-first role offers strong compensation and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Significant experience with networking software and diagnosing networking issues
• Knowledge of routing, VPNs, IP management, and NAT traversal
• Proficiency in Go or C/C++/Rust with concurrency skills
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems is highly desirable
• Familiarity with OS networking stacks is a plus
• Ability to work independently and provide constructive feedback

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and document core Tailscale’s client‑side networking software.
• Advance product features by merging established network protocols with Tailscale’s designs.
• Adopt a security‑centric approach to architecture and coding.
• Evaluate and optimize performance, reliability, and scale across platforms.
• Provide expert consultation and support for critical network escalations.
• Engage with the open‑source community and related projects.
