Job summary

Share is building a next-gen, AI-assisted NOC for Africa's connectivity needs. The Network Operations Engineer will monitor a modern stack, troubleshoot real faults, and automate repetitive tasks using Git-based configs and open source tools.

You will help keep a growing network healthy while writing clear incident notes and collaborating with an international team. The role emphasizes independent fault resolution, proactive health checks, and contributing to the automation roadmap with a bias

Qualifications

• Strong networking competence, CCNA and beyond; understand TCP/IP, routing and switching, IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, NAT.
• Real troubleshooting instinct to locate local vs upstream faults and read BGP, traceroute, and path metrics.
• Working BGP knowledge; understand route policies and RPKI behavior at the edge.
• Comfortable with Linux, device CLIs, and network gear; MikroTik RouterOS is a real plus.
• Comfortable with Git-based configuration management and review workflows.
• Some scripting in Bash or Python to automate repetitive tasks.
• Clear written English with concise incident reporting.
• Calm under pressure, dependable, and punctual for shifts.
• Located in New Zealand or a nearby time zone for night/overnight coverage.

Responsibilities

• Read monitoring stacks (Zabbix, Grafana) and learn normal vs abnormal behavior.
• Troubleshoot and localise faults, confirm alerts, and close tickets independently when possible.
• Keep the network healthy with proactive route propagation checks and peering sessions.
• Write scripts and push config automation (Jinja, NAPALM, NETCONF/gNMI) to reduce manual work.
• Move work forward by handling tickets, review/config merges, and maintain Nautobot accuracy.
• Provide clear incident notes and handovers for offshore teams.
