Job summary

Baker Tilly Advisory Group, LP is seeking a payroll consultant to support multi-client payroll engagements in a mostly remote setup with proximity to Baker Tilly offices across the U.S. Role requires working within 50 miles of designated offices in TX, WI, PA and other PA locations.

You will analyze payroll processes, ensure compliance with federal/state/local rules, prepare payroll tax filings, and help optimize wage handling. Collaborative team environment with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; experience may substitute.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar.
• CPP certification strongly preferred (or in progress).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
• Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and other multistate considerations
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations
