Job summary

Ovation Healthcare is seeking a certified coder to join the ruralMED remote CST team. You will assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes across family medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedics.

Requires CPC or CCS certification and 3–5 years of multi-specialty coding experience, preferably in rural healthcare. Strong knowledge of payer guidelines, EHR systems, and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of multi-specialty coding experience, preferably within a rural healthcare setting.
• Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines and regulations.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of coding updates.

Responsibilities

• Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes across specialties.
• Review documentation to extract information for accurate coding.
• Abstract data from patient records for reporting.
• Clarify ambiguous documentation with physicians and staff.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and industry changes.
• Participate in coding audits and provide process improvement feedback.
• Collaborate with billing to resolve denials and denials.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
• Mentor less experienced coders as needed.
