Responsibilities include reviewing physician notes and reports, abstracting data for reporting, and collaborating with billing to resolve denials, while staying current with coding updates and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS certification required.
• 3–5 years of multi-specialty coding experience, preferably in rural healthcare.
• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS.
• Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on coding changes.

Responsibilities

• Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses and procedures across multiple specialties.
• Review physician notes, operative reports, and diagnostic reports to extract information for accurate coding.
• Abstract relevant data from patient records for data entry and reporting.
• Clarify ambiguous documentation with physicians to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and regulations through ongoing education.
• Participate in coding audits and contribute to process improvements.
• Collaborate with billing to resolve coding-related denials and rejections.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Assist in training and mentoring less experienced coders as needed.
