Job summary

World Meteorological Organization seeks a consultant to automate MT retraining workflows, including downloading and cleaning bitexts from eLUNa, building MT training databases, and retraining Microsoft Translator models across English–Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. The role includes evaluation, glossaries development, and documentation.

Remote-friendly consultancy with possibility of in-person meetings in Geneva.

Qualifications

• University degree in information technology, data science, computer science, language technology or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop a tool (macro, script, etc.) to download bitexts from eLUNa and manage 2024–2026 language pairs.
• Create a database of downloaded bitexts for MT training in six languages.
• Develop a tool to clean bitexts by removing duplicates, misalignments, empty targets, etc.
• Retrain Microsoft Translator models for English↔Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish and vice versa.
• Evaluate retraining results using BLEU/COMET scores and report findings.
• Collaborate with WMO linguists for human evaluation of models.
• Prepare bilingual glossaries based on WMO terminology and retrain models with glossaries.
• Document retraining procedures and provide training materials.
