Job summary

Eastern Iowa Community College District in Iowa is seeking a remote Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Trainer/Project Manager to deliver MSHA Part 46 and Part 48 training, develop new safety programming, and support statewide mine operators through education, compliance guidance, and project management.

The role offers strong work–life balance with statewide travel; training may be in-person, virtually, or onsite at mining facilities, primarily remote with frequent travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
• Be current on the applicable New Miner and Annual Refresher training.
• Minimum 3 years verifiable mining experience within the last 5 years.
• Successful completion of an MSHA -accepted instructor training course, or ability to complete the course within six months of employment.
• Knowledge of MSHA regulations, standards, and training requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.
• Ability to travel statewide as needed for training delivery and mine site support.

Responsibilities

• Instruct MSHA Part 46, Part 48A, and Part 48B courses in accordance with MSHA-approved training plans.
• Deliver New Miner, Annual Refresher, site-specific, and task training.
• Provide short-topic safety refreshers and specialized courses (e.g., electrical safety, haulage equipment, dredging operations, PPE, silica dust hazards).
• Use interactive instructional methods including videos, role play, case studies, and hands-on demonstrations including virtual reality simulations.
• Ensure student learning outcomes are achieved and documented.
• Evaluate and record student performance; provide regular feedback.
• Maintain a safe instructional environment for students and staff.
