Qualifications

• Master of Science in Physics, Health Physics, Radiological Physics, Medical Physics, or related field required. PhD preferred.
• Texas License in Medical Physics specialty required.
• Board Certification by ABR or American Board of Radiology or American Board Science of Nuclear Medicine or American Board of Health Physics or other nationally recognized medical physics board certification.
• Clinical experience post graduate training preferred.
• Four years of related experience preferred.
• Member of the American Association of Physicist in Medicine or other equivalent professional society.
• Eligible to be the principal Radiation Safety Officer for both Radioactive Material licenses and Certificate of X-ray registrations as defined by Texas Administration Code §289.

Responsibilities

• Provides expertise in both Diagnostic Radiological Physics and Medical Nuclear Physics.
• Carries out the responsibilities and duties of the primary Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for both X-Ray Registration and RAM licenses, serving as liaison to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
• Assists in development and evaluation of radiation safety policies, procedures and practices to ensure appropriate radiation practice and minimize exposure.
• Oversees Equipment Performance Evaluations of x-ray and other imaging equipment, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.
• Performs dosimetry calculations and shielding calculations to meet regulatory requirements.
• Participates in Radiation Protocol Committees and Radiation Safety Committees to ensure best practices and state regulations are met.
