Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Welding Engineering.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in physical/metallurgical metallurgy, specifically metal joining processes in aerospace, automotive, or heavy manufacturing.
• Deep understanding of phase transformations, residual stress, and the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature in welded joints.
• Experience with computational metallurgy software (e.g., Thermo-Calc, JMatPro) and materials characterization equipment (SEM, XRD, OES).
• Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills, with ability to translate complex metallurgical data into actionable engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Metal Joining & Welding Leadership: Develop, qualify, and optimize metal joining procedures; evaluate weld cycles, HAZ microstructure, and PWHT considerations.
• Metallurgical Analysis & Testing: Analyze properties, perform root-cause failure analysis, oversee lab operations and microstructural characterization.
• R&D and Process Optimization: Lead research for innovative joining techniques; collaborate with design and production to align materials specs with capabilities; assess advanced manufacturing options for reliability.
