Boyd Thermal, now part of Eaton, seeks a Metallurgy/Metal Joining SME to lead materials engineering and joining initiatives across R&D and production. You will define best practices in metallurgy, develop welding procedures, and ensure durable, high‑performance components.

You will guide collaboration with design and manufacturing teams, evaluate joining options, and mentor engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Welding Engineering.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in physical/metallurgy focusing on metal joining processes.
• Strong understanding of phase transformations and residual stress in welded joints.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and optimize metal joining procedures (fusion welding, solid-state joining, brazing).
• Evaluate weld thermal cycles, HAZ microstructure, and defects to ensure structural integrity.
• Advise on filler metals, shielding gases, and PWHT selections.
