Job summary

Synthires is seeking experienced Medical Coders to support AI training and evaluation through outpatient coding review, annotation, and validation. This is a remote contractor role for US-based professionals, focusing on accurate coding and compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M guidelines.

No prior AI experience is required; strong coding expertise and attention to detail are the primary requirements.

Qualifications

• Active CPC certification.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II.
• Experience applying outpatient E&M coding guidelines.
• Hands-on outpatient coding experience in physician offices, specialty clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, or hospital outpatient departments.
• Strong understanding of coding compliance, documentation requirements, and medical necessity standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Review and annotate outpatient medical records, including physician office visits, specialty clinic encounters, ambulatory surgery cases, and hospital outpatient services.
• Assign and validate accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation.
• Apply Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding guidelines using medical decision-making or total-time methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with outpatient coding conventions, diagnosis coding guidelines, modifier usage, and medical necessity requirements.
• Link diagnoses appropriately to procedures and services performed.
• Review coding scenarios and identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, or coding inaccuracies.
• Provide detailed feedback on coding decisions, guidelines, and complex coding situations.
• Collaborate with project teams to clarify coding requirements and resolve documentation ambiguities.
• Contribute to the development of high-quality datasets used to improve AI understanding of medical coding workflows.
