Job summary

10 Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Illinois seeks a Hospital Coder to join the Medical Record Management team. Coders are responsible for technical coding including ICD‑CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes, modifiers, and MS‑DRG assignments.

Remote work is available with full-time hours (40 hours/week). Starting pay is $22.72 per hour, with pay based on experience and opportunity for progression based on performance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Upon hire, one of the following credentials: CCA, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with record documentation by requesting clarification for additional information.
• Educate physicians and ancillary staff about required documentation for coding.
• Contact physician offices or departments for diagnostic information to code the encounter.
• Assist with training new coding staff as requested.
• Code all encounter types and finalize inpatient and outpatient services per standards.
• Meet quality targets: 95% of diagnoses and procedures coded correctly.
• Ensure data quality and maximize reimbursement under federal and state systems.
• Perform follow-up on encounters needing coding and finalization.
• Review and correct rejected/denied encounters.
• Review records to ascertain all diagnoses/procedures and code per ICD-CM and CPT guidelines.
