Job summary

Ascension is a leading nonprofit health system seeking a Remote Medical Coder to abstract medical records and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to establish DRG or APC assignments. You will collaborate with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure adherence to AHIMA standards.

The role requires CCS/CPC credentials or Cardiac specialty, EPIC experience, and knowledge of CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10-CM, CMS guidelines, and NCCI edits.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials required by hire date.
• High School diploma or equivalent or 1 year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Abstract medical information and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes for DRG/APC.
• Query physicians to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation and educate staff.
• Perform internal coding audits in line with AHIMA standards and guidelines.
• Maintain productivity and quality while staying current with coding, compliance, and reimbursement rules.
