Job summary

Sunrise Group seeks a detail-oriented Medical Billing Associate to manage the full billing cycle for sleep health services, including code assignment, claim submission, and payment posting. You will resolve denials, collect balances, and ensure HIPAA-compliant processes across the remote Revenue Cycle Management team.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in medical billing, strong communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience in sleep medicine billing and patient collections.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
• Experience in Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing strongly preferred.
• Experience in collections, including patient balance collections.
• Experience in a customer service role, including handling sensitive or frustrated callers with patience and professionalism.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve account issues independently.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and follow-ups.
• Comfort with technology, including billing and practice management systems, email, and spreadsheets, and the ability to learn new tools quickly.
• Good people skills: empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help patients.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
• Genuine interest in sleep, health, and helping people better understand and improve their well-being.
• Spanish-speaking (bilingual English/Spanish) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient inquiries about account balances, statements, and charges by phone, email, and secure messaging, resolving concerns accurately and promptly.
• Explain insurance coverage and benefits in plain language, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, explanations of benefits, and patient responsibility for services and equipment.
• Collect patient payments, including balances due, and follow up on outstanding patient accounts with a courteous, solution-focused approach.
• Set up, document, and monitor payment plans, follow up on missed or late payments, and adjust plans according to company policy.
• Process medical records requests from patients and authorized parties, verifying authorization and following HIPAA requirements.
• Partner with the billing, accounts receivable, and other revenue cycle teams to research and resolve account issues, and elevate complex cases appropriately.
• Document every patient interaction clearly and completely in our billing system so any team member can pick up an account.
• Identify recurring questions or trends in patient inquiries and share feedback to help improve statements, communications, and processes.
• Protect patient privacy and follow all HIPAA and company compliance standards.
