Our Client

Our Client is an innovative, high-growth Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) food enterprise specializing in better-for-you, high-fiber products - including patented resistant-starch pasta imported from Italy, specialty crackers, baking flours, mac & cheese, and riced grains. Serving major nationwide retail channels and direct-to-consumer platforms, our client operates with a lean, fast-paced execution model that prioritizes product quality, supply chain integrity, rigorous cost control, and proactive vendor management.

Job Overview

We're hiring a hands-on Marketing & Growth Manager to own how our marketing performs: where every dollar goes, what's working, and what to cut. This is a remote role, and the person will be the decision-maker across Amazon, paid ads, social, email, and retail.

The company makes better-for-you, high-fiber food: pasta made in Italy with a patented resistant-starch formulation, plus Thinables crackers, baking flour, mac & cheese, and riced pasta. Amazon is our largest sales channel. Their marketing budget is small, so every dollar has to earn its place.

You'll start by overseeing their current Amazon agency and social and email work. If you prove you can run it better, you take over direct management.

The common thread is data. You don't need to be the designer or the copywriter. You need to look at any ad, post, email, or listing and say, with numbers to back it up, whether it's working and how to make it better.

How the role starts

The role has two phases, and you earn the second one.

  • Phase 1 - Oversight (first 60-90 days). You review everything our Amazon agency does: ad spend, campaigns, bids, keywords, ACoS/TACoS, and listing changes. You also review our social media and email marketing. Each week you send a short report covering what's working, what's wasting money, and what you would change and why.
  • Phase 2 - Ownership (if earned). If your calls prove right and you find real waste and opportunities others missed, you take over management of Amazon ads and our marketing budget. You also direct the strategy for the social and email work.

If Phase 2 isn't the right fit, the role continues as an independent reviewer who keeps our agency and vendors accountable.

What you'll own
Main focus: performance and budget
  • Amazon advertising. Audit and later manage our Amazon PPC: campaign structure, bids, keywords, and negative keywords. Track ACoS, TACoS, conversion rate, and organic rank. Improve listings (titles, images, A+ content) based on what the data shows.
  • Budget allocation. Decide where our limited budget goes across Amazon, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, influencers, UGC, and organic content. Base each decision on unit economics, meaning what we earn per unit after ad costs. Test small, scale what's profitable, and cut what isn't. An early priority: figure out why our Meta ads aren't profitable yet, and either fix them or pause them.
  • Measurement and reporting. Build a simple weekly scorecard across every channel: spend, sales, cost per result, and what changed and why. You should be able to tell us at any time which channels are making money and which aren't.
Across all marketing: oversight and direction
  • Social media. Oversee our social media person. Review their content, look at the performance data, and give clear direction on what to post, what to stop, and which organic posts should become paid ads.
  • Email marketing. Review our email campaigns and flows (welcome, abandoned cart, win-back). Measure open, click, and revenue rates, and recommend what to send, when, and how each email should be structured.
  • Retail marketing (smaller share). Review Instacart Ads and retail performance, and recommend where to improve, scale, or pull back. When we launch with a new retailer, plan how to drive shoppers to our products and sales in store, using retailer digital ads, in-store demos, promotions, or other tactics that pay off.
  • Creative direction. You don't need to design, but you should know what a winning post, ad, or email looks like. Give specific, actionable feedback on layout, hooks, offers, and calls to action.
  • Messaging and positioning. Help sharpen how we talk about our products: the words, claims, and stories that actually sell. Support our rebrand with the right terms and language.
  • Hands-on content when needed. When the situation calls for it, step in and create content yourself, such as writing ad copy, drafting an email, or making a simple post or short video.
What this role is not

This role touches all of marketing, but it is not a generalist role. To be clear:

  • Not a social media manager. You direct and measure social; someone else handles day-to-day posting.
  • Not a designer. You give the creative direction; designers and vendors produce the work.
  • Not a "brand awareness" role. Every recommendation needs to tie back to sales and profit.
  • Not a retail sales role. You'll support retail marketing, but Amazon and direct-to-consumer come first, and you won't manage retailer or distributor relationships.

If your strength is creating content but you aren't comfortable owning an ad budget and the numbers behind it, this isn't the right fit.

What success looks like
At 90 days
  • A full audit of our Amazon agency's work, with specific money-saving and growth recommendations.
  • A weekly scorecard running across Amazon, paid social, organic social, and email.
  • Clear feedback loops in place with our social media person and email vendor.
  • A recommendation on where our budget should go next quarter, backed by numbers.
At 12 months
  • Amazon ad spend is profitable, with ACoS and TACoS at or below agreed targets.
  • Every marketing dollar is tracked to a result, and channels that don't pay are cut.
  • Social and email performance is measurably better than when you started.
  • Our messaging is sharper and consistent across Amazon, social, email, and the website.
  • The CEO can trust marketing decisions without being pulled into the details.
Who you are
Requirements
  • 3+ years managing Amazon advertising, ideally for a food, CPG, or consumer brand.
  • A proven, numbers-backed track record of making ad spend profitable. You'll be asked to show real results.
  • Hands-on experience running Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ads, with results you can show, plus working knowledge of TikTok, organic social, and email marketing, enough to judge what's working and direct others.
  • Strong analytical skills: comfortable with ACoS, TACoS, ROAS, conversion rates, and unit economics.
  • A sharp eye for creative: you know what makes a post, ad, or email convert.
  • Strong instincts for messaging and storytelling: you know which words sell.
  • Experience working with tight budgets and making every dollar prove itself.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Confident and direct: comfortable challenging an agency, pushing back, and telling us when something isn't worth the money.
  • Self-directed and accountable, with good judgment and no need for close supervision.
Nice to have
  • Experience overseeing or auditing a marketing agency.
  • Experience with influencer and UGC programs on a small budget.
  • Familiarity with Klaviyo, Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, and Helium 10 or similar tools.
  • Experience with Instacart Ads, retail launches, or shopper marketing (demos, in-store promotions), and with better-for-you food brands.
