Job summary

CAI is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to join our IT team. The role is full-time, remote, and contract-based, focusing on COBOL, NATURAL, JCL, and ADABAS expertise across multiple client projects.

Responsibilities include development, modernization support, and system integration efforts, with strong emphasis on troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration in design reviews and testing phases.

Qualifications

Five+ years building enterprise mainframe applications in COBOL.
Five+ years with JCL development and job scheduling.
Three+ years with NATURAL/ADABAS.
Five+ years using TSO/ISPF or similar tools.
Three+ years with AFP, PAGEDEF, FORMDEF, OVERLAY.
Advanced COBOL, JCL, NATURAL programming expertise.
Knowledge of ADABAS database architecture and files.
Experience maintaining large legacy mainframe systems.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging for batch/online apps.
Experience with mainframe integrations and data feeds.

Responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL, NATURAL, and JCL programs.
Work on legacy mainframe apps and tax/client system integrations.
Analyze applications and provide technical walkthroughs and docs.
Design, code, test, implement, and maintain batch and online apps.
Troubleshoot production issues, failures, and abends with root-cause analysis.
Analyze ADABAS databases, files, and data access methods.
Develop data feeds and interfaces between legacy and modern platforms.
Participate in design reviews, planning sessions, and code reviews.
Create and maintain program specs, job flows, architecture diagrams, data definitions.
Support testing, UAT, and production deployments.
