Job summary

Manulife seeks an experienced Life Underwriting Auditor to conduct in-depth audits of underwriting initiatives, assess decision quality, and provide actionable recommendations. You will collaborate with Underwriting and Risk teams to maintain alignment with pricing, mortality assumptions, and regulatory requirements.

The role emphasizes data-driven analysis, detailed reporting, and contributions to continuous improvement of governance frameworks.

Qualifications

• Several years (typically 5+ years) of experience in life insurance underwriting.
• Strong understanding of life insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and risk selection principles.
• Ability to interpret complex medical and financial information and assess risk.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with ability to present findings to leadership.
• Discretion and professionalism handling sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Conduct post issue audits and monitoring of new underwriting initiatives to assess technical accuracy, guideline adherence, quality of underwriter decisioning.
• Review underwriting decisions for medical, financial, and operational soundness, ensuring alignment with guidelines and risk appetite.
• Identify material errors, trends, and themes in audit results and prepare structured reports for management.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Management and Risk Management to develop and monitor CAPs and remediation progress.
• Support enhancement of the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, including KRIs and governance standards.
• Translate audit findings into targeted training and guideline clarifications with Training & Development.
• Provide input into innovation initiatives by testing impact on underwriting quality and risk.
• Assist with design and execution of Targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
• Ensure audit documentation is complete and suitable for internal audit and regulatory review.
• Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement of audit frameworks, metrics, and reporting.
