Job summary

ICF seeks an experienced Substation Physical Engineer to lead the design and execution of high‑voltage substation projects (69kV–500kV) with a focus on quality and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to work from home in Puerto Rico, and capable of mentoring junior staff.

The role requires deep knowledge of physical layout, grounding, and equipment selection, with extensive utility project experience and strong leadership potential for supervisory progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (focus in power systems preferred).
• 8+ years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.
• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tool.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the design and preparation of substation physical design drawings (One Line, Three Line; General Arrangements; Electrical Details).
• Develop engineering studies (AC Load, Illumination, Grounding, Lightning Shielding).
• Coordinate with protection, civil/structural, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverables.
• Support client meetings, site visits, QA/QC processes, and adherence to IEEE/NESC/utility standards.
