Hidden Jobs is seeking a remote Lead Engineer to shape architecture, engineering practices, and AI-powered features for a multi-application product suite powering online higher-education programs. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management and cloud delivery across a global team.

The ideal candidate has 5–8 years in core languages and frameworks, deep AI tooling experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of professional experience across core languages and frameworks.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on with AI engineering tools and agentic system design (LangGraph, LangChain, LangFuse, OpenAI Agents SDK).
• Proficiency with Python, Node.js, React, Bootstrap, Ant Design, SSO, and AWS AppSync (GraphQL).
• Cloud experience with AWS services (EC2, Lambda, SNS, API Gateway) and databases (PostgreSQL, Aurora).
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and leadership; agile delivery.
• Must be legally authorized to live and work in South Africa and reside there during employment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with technology leadership on hiring recommendations, resource allocation, and project prioritization
• Collaborate with product management to define and prioritize enterprise-level features
• Define and document organization-wide engineering policies, standards, and best practices
• Design and implement agentic systems that integrate with existing products, including AI tooling
• Lead quality and reliability improvements through code review, automated testing, and CI
• Mentor and line-manage engineers, providing day-to-day support, technical guidance, and career development
• Drive the product suite toward scalable, serverless-first infrastructure patterns
