Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Senior Android Team Lead to own core product features end to end in our 100% distributed environment. You will write, review, and own features, ensure reliability, and guide the team through release cycles.

You'll lead with Kotlin, MVVM, and modern Android tooling, mentoring engineers while shipping high-quality audio/video experiences. Remote, US-focused, with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
• Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them.
• Something you introduced to a team that stuck after you stopped pushing it, and an honest account of what it cost to get there.
• Comfort with changing how people work and handling associated friction.
• Judgment on changes requiring heavy review, based on system behavior.
• Track record of building things actually used by the team, not just for personal speed.
• Ability to describe how your team works with AI agents, not only how you do personally.
• Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to push Android UI/UX beyond the spec.
• Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from decision through release with design team.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team when someone is stuck and guide decisions.
• Ensure the team uses the best version by consolidating implementations.
• Keep shared components well-documented and maintainable.
• Shift verification left to automate nightly QA checks.
• Plan sprints to focus on undecided work and important decisions.
• Engage with Product, Design, and Engineering early to surface constraints.
• Handle critical issues, releases, and nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide learning opportunities.
