Job summary

Speechify is seeking an experienced Android Team Lead to own core product work in a fully distributed environment. You will write, review, and own features, while guiding the team toward reliable, scalable releases and automated verification.

You will mentor juniors and ensure cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of engineering leadership, strong Kotlin and Android experience, and a proven track record of shipping long-running

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with team leadership or major surface ownership.
• Strong Kotlin and Android framework knowledge, including modern Android patterns.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or long-running tasks.
• Emphasis on testing and reliable delivery, with evidence of learning from failures.
• Track record of building reusable components used by the team and AI integration awareness.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, collaborating with design to delivery.
• Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team and ensure efficient problem-solving.
• Spot opportunities to standardize and consolidate code used by the team.
• Lead changes in how the team works, not just implement them.
• Reduce manual steps to achieve reliable releases.
• Address recurring problems by changing underlying setups.
• Shift verification left with automated checks for nightly QA builds.
• Plan sprints so focus remains on unresolved decisions.
• Assess review needs across areas and set clear ownership.
• Participate in cross-functional discussions early to align constraints.
• Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide growth opportunities.
