Job summary

Apart Research is seeking a senior leader to set the direction for AI safety research programs and expand our global talent pipeline. You will design Sprint and Fellowship tracks, define solvable problems, and shape outcomes with external partners.

You will oversee the Field Building Division, manage a cross-functional team, and report on KPIs to the CEO. This is a remote role with CET overlap, offering travel support and a 5,000 USD annual learning budget.

Qualifications

• Experience mapping AI safety research directions and priorities.
• Ability to write research problems, RFPs, and task specifications for teams.
• Proven track record spotting, recruiting, and developing talent across cohorts.
• Experience starting initiatives and managing people delivering them.
• Willingness to adjust course based on evidence and data.
• Ability to judge papers, run small experiments, and engage frontier-lab researchers.

Responsibilities

• Write the research tracks for each Sprint and Fellowship cohort, including three to five solvable problems and evaluation criteria.
• Hold the map of AI safety research progress and read papers, talk to researchers, and run checks.
• Design programs for talent by selecting partners, sponsors, universities, and safety groups.
• Decide what runs and prove it works by owning Sprint calendars, theory of change, premortems, and postmortems.
• Lead the Special Projects team and Field Building division, manage collaborations, and report KPIs/OKRs to the CEO.
