Job summary

Haugland Group, a private Long Island-based civil infrastructure and energy construction company, seeks a Junior Estimator to support trenchless project bidding from remote locations with occasional travel. You will perform takeoffs, review plans and specs, develop cost estimates, gather vendor quotes, and assist with bid prep under senior supervision.

Qualifications

• 2+ years estimating/engineering/construction experience; trenchless a plus.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
• Ability to read/interpret civil drawings, specs, geotechnical reports, survey data, and construction documents.
• Basic understanding of heavy civil construction methods, underground utilities, and estimating principles.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail with accuracy under bid deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to work with teams, vendors, and clients.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform labor, equipment, material, and quantity takeoffs from plans and specs.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates and bid proposals for trenchless projects (HDD, tunneling, auger boring, microtunneling).
• Assist in evaluating trenchless means, equipment needs, production rates, and constructability.
• Obtain and track vendor and subcontractor quotes; prepare RFQs and help manage bid schedules.
• Organize estimate files, bid folders, and supporting documentation; assist with bid deadlines.
• Use estimating/project management software (B2W, HeavyBid, Procore, Excel, MS Project).
• Review bid documents for discrepancies and risks; collaborate with estimators, PMs, engineers, and vendors.
