Job summary

Hinterland Group is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Estimator to turn plans and specifications into competitive, defensible bids for water, sewer, and related infrastructure. You will work directly with leadership to shape pricing strategies and win work, with real field exposure beyond desk work.

Five to ten years in estimating underground utility or heavy civil projects, strong plan-reading skills, and experience with estimating software are required.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years estimating underground utility or heavy civil projects
• Ability to read civil plans and specs and translate to numbers
• Experience with takeoff/estimation software
• Strong attention to detail under deadline
• Bachelor's degree preferred in CM or CE

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, and bid documents to build accurate estimates
• Run quantity takeoffs for pipe, structures, excavation, backfill, and restoration
• Price labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs
• Source vendor/subcontractor quotes to keep bids sharp
• Spot risks and constructability issues before they impact field operations
• Build polished bid proposals and pricing summaries
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks with field teams
• Hand off winning bids to project managers and engineers
• Shaping pricing for change orders and value‑engineered projects
