Placements24 is seeking a Remote Junior Buyer to join a growing procurement team. The role focuses on sourcing electrical components, processing POs, and maintaining supplier data from anywhere in South Africa.

You will work with engineering, production and QA to clarify requirements, perform basic market research and support inventory management. A degree or diploma in SCM with 1–2 years' experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in SCM, Electrical Eng, or related field.
• 1–2 years in purchasing/procurement or admin role advantageous; electronics/manufacturing background
• Strong organization and meticulous attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel; data entry, tracking, and basic reporting

Responsibilities

• Assist senior buyers in sourcing electrical components, sub-assemblies, and related materials.
• Process purchase orders; ensure accuracy of item codes, quantities, specs, and pricing.
• Monitor order status; track shipments; confirm delivery schedules with suppliers.
• Maintain supplier records, pricing agreements and procurement data.
• Liaise with engineering, production, and QA to clarify requirements.
• Conduct basic market research on component availability and pricing trends.
• Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels and flags for stock-outs.
• Resolve discrepancies related to POs, invoices and GRNs.
• Ensure purchasing aligns with company policies and procedures.
• Provide admin support to procurement department as needed

About the Role

The Junior Buyer will be instrumental in supporting the sourcing and purchasing of electrical components, ensuring timely delivery and competitive pricing. Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior buyers in sourcing and procuring electrical components, sub-assemblies, and related materials.
• Process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of item codes, quantities, specifications, and pricing.

• Maintain up-to-date records of supplier information, pricing agreements, and procurement data in the company's system.
• Liaise with internal departments such as engineering, production, and quality assurance to clarify requirements and resolve queries.
• Conduct basic market research on component availability, pricing trends, and potential alternative suppliers.
• Support inventory management efforts by monitoring stock levels and highlighting potential stock-outs or excess inventory.
• Assist in resolving discrepancies related to purchase orders, invoices, and goods received notes.
• Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and procedures.
• Provide administrative support to the procurement department as needed.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Previous internship experience or 1-2 years of experience in a purchasing, procurement, or administrative role is advantageous, particularly within the electronics or manufacturing sector.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data entry, tracking, and basic reporting.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with suppliers and internal teams in a virtual environment.
• A proactive and eager-to-learn attitude, with a desire to understand the intricacies of electronic component procurement.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with ERP systems or procurement software is a plus.
