Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Joint Use Designer for a remote role nationwide in the United States. The role emphasizes experience with DDS and Katapult, pole attachments, and make-ready design for utility and communication projects.

You will prepare construction documents, perform make-ready work, assist in cost estimates, and support field operations while adhering to QA/QC processes and client standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years fieldwork or construction experience.
• Associate degree in engineering technology, construction, drafting technology, or related with 0-2 years experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, GIS, drafting, or related discipline preferred.
• Prior utility design or make-ready design experience preferred.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics preferred.
• Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction preferred.
• Experience in pole loading or construction modeling software beneficial (AutoCAD, Katapult, etc.).
• Knowledge of SPANS, NJUNS, IkeGPS for make-ready engineering and construction beneficial.
• Knowledge of utility distribution design and construction standards and design software.
• Familiar with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables.
• Must be organized and able to keep project data organized from start to finish.
• Ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and communicate statuses.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and design/business enterprise software.
• Effective written and oral communication at all levels of the organization.
• Must have dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance.
• Must be able to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test per Federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction documents for overhead and underground electric distribution, fiber optic, and telecom facilities.
• Prepare make-ready work for joint use projects.
• Assist in engineering/project cost estimates and execution schedules.
• Provide field support during construction.
• Provide QA/QC reviews and adhere to processes.
• Evaluate loading of equipment and poles for safe, cost-effective design.
• Apply NESC standards and client requirements to designs.
• Analyze field data and update software for design implementation.
• Use client software to support daily engineering workflow.
• Communicate project status with management and clients.
• Travel as needed for project assignments.
