Job summary

The Helmsman Group LLC is seeking an IT Specialist for remote work to administer, monitor, and secure our IT systems. You will manage servers, virtualization, cloud services, and incident response, ensuring high availability and compliance with security standards.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in IT, strong scripting skills, and experience with Active Directory, Entra ID, and backup/recovery processes. Excellent documentation and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related IT role.
• Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
• Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and authentication services.
• Experience with server administration, virtualization, and system monitoring.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
• Experience with backup, recovery, patch management, and system maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with IT service management and ticketing systems.
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and enterprise IT infrastructure.
• Administer Windows and Linux server environments.
• Manage physical, virtual, and cloud-based systems.
• Monitor system availability, performance, capacity, and resource utilization.
• Troubleshoot server and application issues.
• Manage user accounts, groups, and access controls using AD/Entra ID.
• Administer Group Policy and authentication.
• Apply OS updates, security patches, drivers, software.
• Monitor system logs and performance metrics.
• Support VMware/Hyper‑V virtualization.
• Assist with cloud services in Azure, AWS, Google Cloud.
• Maintain backups and assist disaster recovery.
• Document incidents and resolutions.
