*TEKsystems is seeking multiple Remote IP Core Network Engineers to provide core network monitoring and support for our Alaska-based ISP.*

*This will be a contract-to-hire engagement.*

*This resource will be 100% remote.*

Description

Purpose of Position: Provides expertise and support of the local area IP Core Network, including complex client-server environments. The role involves operational monitoring, support, analysis, and systems administration. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining the organization’s core network systems, applications, security, and configurations. The engineer will also handle performance tuning of data communications hardware and software, and coordinate upgrades and maintenance activities.

Maintain the company's systems, wireless data/IP, and core network environment by providing operational support for IP, MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, and Data/IP network systems. Provide technical support for incident resolution, including wireless telecom technologies and a growing 5G network. Handle incidents ranging from outages to intermittent issues, ensuring they meet design and quality standards.

Essential Duties

1. Project work related to platform growth and support
2. Change management planning and implementation
3. Configuration and troubleshooting of Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper IP/MPLS routers and switches
4. Work independently or in teams to support multiple network platforms
5. Manage network resources and review facility utilization and performance
6. Create and audit network and system documentation
7. Track inventory and ensure lifecycle management of network elements
8. Perform daily operational checks and preventative maintenance
9. Generate traffic and performance reports; identify bottlenecks
10. Coordinate system software and hardware upgrades with Engineering
11. Collaborate with engineers and business groups to resolve customer issues, ensuring SLA compliance
12. Manage repair parts and materials
13. Install, configure, and support LAN, WAN, and internet systems
14. Monitor network availability and perform necessary maintenance
15. Provide direct customer communication and Tier I/II escalation support
16. Monitor site performance and support in-network modeling, analysis, and planning
17. Administer and implement network security measures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to handle moderate stress and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
• Experience managing large network platforms
• Proficiency with Visio and understanding of WAN concepts
• Experience with SNMP-based network management systems
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Experience with tools like Remedy, Metasolv, Statseeker, Cacti, Cisco Prime, and X-windows
• Ongoing skill development to optimize network repair and performance

Certifications

Industry-specific certifications are highly valued. Preferred certifications include:

• Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS-I, or equivalent
• Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS-II, or equivalent, SCTE DEP

Workplace Type

This is a fully remote position.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, disability, HSA, transportation benefits, PTO, and more, subject to eligibility and plan specifics.
