Job description

*TEKsystems is seeking multiple Remote IP Core Network Engineers to provide core network monitoring and support for our Alaska-based ISP.*

*This will be a contract-to-hire engagement.*

*This resource will be 100% remote.*

Description:

Purpose of Position: Provides expertise and support of the local area IP Core Network, including complex client-server environments. The position will provide operational monitoring, support, analysis, and systems administration. Install, configure, and support the organization's core network by maintaining systems, applications, security, and network configurations. Responsible for the configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of data communications hardware and software. Coordinate, install, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain the network.

Maintain the company's systems, wireless data/IP, and core network environment by providing operational support for the company's core IP, MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, and Data/IP network systems.

Provide technical support for incident resolution related to wireless telecommunication technologies, including a growing 5G network. Incidents range from total outages to chronic intermittent issues causing a reduction of service, in accordance with design criteria and quality goals.

Essential Duties of All Levels in the Position:
  1. Project work relating to platform growth and support.
  2. Change management and management plans.
  3. Configuration and troubleshooting of Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper IP/MPLS routers and switches.
  4. Working independently and/or in teams with little or no supervision, providing primary support for multiple network platforms.
  5. Management of network resources.
  6. Reviewing facilities utilization and performance.
  7. Creating and auditing network and systems documentation.
  8. Inventory tracking and maintenance, reports ensuring network elements meet expected life cycles.
  9. Performing daily operational checks and preventative maintenance on all associated equipment.
  10. Compiling and generating statistical/traffic & network performance reports, including bandwidth usage. Identifying bottlenecks on IP links.
  11. Performing system software and hardware upgrades in collaboration with Engineering.
  12. Working closely with Engineers and other business groups to resolve customer-impacting problems. Ensuring compliance with network SLAs.
  13. Tracking repair parts and materials according to established procedures.
  14. Installing, configuring, and supporting the company's LAN, WAN, and internet systems, or segments thereof.
  15. Monitoring network to ensure availability and performing necessary maintenance.
  16. Providing direct customer communication and Tier I and Tier II escalation support.
  17. Monitoring and testing site performance to ensure proper operation without interruption.
  18. Supporting in-network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination of hardware and software.
  19. Administering and implementing network security measures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to handle moderate stress while demonstrating excellent interpersonal and professional skills.
  • Experience managing large network platforms.
  • Proficiency with Visio.
  • Understanding of WAN concepts such as routing, multicasting, broadcasting, duplex configurations, reliability, high availability, security, and standards.
  • Experience with SNMP-based network management systems is strongly recommended.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with effective documentation of procedures and processes.
  • Experience with Remedy, Metasolv, Statseeker, Cacti, Cisco Prime, and X-windows is strongly recommended.
  • Ongoing skill development to improve MTTR and network optimization.

Certifications: Industry-specific certifications are highly valued and contribute toward education.

Preferred Certifications:
  • Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS-I, or equivalent
  • Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS-II, or equivalent, SCTE DEP
Workplace Type:

This is a fully remote position.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits, which may depend on job classification and employment length. Benefits may include:
