Job summary

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for our Hydropower and Water Resources team.

This role can be performed from anywhere in the United States, working under senior engineers to design, analyze, and deliver hydropower projects from concept through commissioning. You will develop layouts for turbine equipment, penstocks, gates, and balance-of-plant systems, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide field support during construction and startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (PE, P.Eng.) registration in the United States or Canada.
• Approximately 6–10 years of progressive mechanical engineering and project engineering experience.
• Experience with hydro-mechanical systems such as turbines, generators, penstocks, gates, hoists, hydraulic steel structures, auxiliary systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.
• Strong knowledge of North American engineering codes, ASME, CSA, and related hydro-mechanical equipment.
• Experience providing engineering support during construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and analysis for hydropower, dam, and water infrastructure projects.
• Develop mechanical layouts for powerhouse equipment, penstocks, piping, gates, and related systems.
• Coordinate mechanical design with civil, structural, electrical, and other teams.
• Support procurement, tender documentation, and technical specifications.
• Provide on-site support during construction, commissioning, and testing.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement.
