Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team. This remote role is limited to residents of AZ, FL, GA, MI, NV, NC, OH, SC, TN, TX, UT, or VA and will focus on creating engaging online courses, updates, and assessments for higher education students and faculty.

The designer will collaborate with SMEs, QA staff, and others to develop course shells, syllabi, and modules in Canvas, using tools such as CidiLabs, Design Plus, and Canva, while

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in instructional design or a related field.
• Formal training in instructional design or eLearning (720 clock hours) if degree is not in the field.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in instructional design.
• At least one year of experience at a higher education institution.
• Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
• Some travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify learning objectives and create course documentation.
• Apply instructional design principles to develop student-centered content.
• Design and develop online course materials including assessments and discussions.
• Develop course shells and modules in Canvas using authoring tools.
• Source and cite external media and resources.
• Support Academic Quality Assurance processes.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education.
• Troubleshoot faculty and student course access and functionality.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development.
• Help publish SOPs for consistency across the department.
• Other duties as assigned.
