Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking an inpatient coder to review clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes within the inpatient EHR. You will apply coding guidelines, CMS regulations, and coding standards to ensure accurate billing and data reporting.

The role requires collaboration with clinical documentation improvement and quality teams, utilization of various software, and the ability to work from a home-based setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligible) or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management and/or CCS required.
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS certification required.
• New graduates eligible for certification; must complete exam at earliest testing dates.
• Prior hospital coding experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient records using Official Coding Guidelines and CMS regulations.
• Maintain knowledge of coding principles and third-party payer requirements.
• Collaborate with providers and departments to standardize coding, documentation, and quality reporting.
