Job summary

Memorial Hermann seeks an experienced inpatient coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10 diagnoses and procedures for hospital reimbursement, research and compliance. Position emphasizes accurate coding, DRG assignment and adherence to AHIMA guidelines.

Minimum qualifications include RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CIC certification and 3+ years inpatient coding in a hospital setting. Remote work option, with state eligibility requirements for relocation.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred.
• Licenses/ Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CIC (AHIMA or AAPC) required.

Responsibilities

• Review and abstract inpatient medical records, assigning accurate ICD-10 diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure data elements for federal/state reporting and billing are captured in patient records.
• Query physicians when documentation is unclear to support accurate coding and reimbursement.
• Maintain ICD-10 and DRG accuracy and meet productivity standards.
• Adhere to AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines.
• Support ongoing education and mentorship within the coding team.
