Job summary

CommonSpirit Health seeks an experienced Coding Manager to oversee inpatient coding operations across the Coding Service Center, driving efficiency, standardization, and regulatory compliance. Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years coding experience in an acute care setting.
• 2–3 years supervisory experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Comprehensive understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
• Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology.
• Knowledge of 3M Encoder, Coding Clinic Guidelines, CMS Program Memorandums related to coding and billing practices, and Nosology.
• Basic knowledge of charge description master (CDM).

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct inpatient coding operations, including personnel oversight, workflow coordination, and the enforcement of standardized practices across the organization.
• Monitor and analyze critical performance metrics, such as Discharged Not Billed (DNB) reports and timely filing, to ensure alignment with financial goals and operational efficiency.
• Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards by overseeing the quality and accuracy of coding and billing practices.
• Collaborate with HIM, IT, Case Management, and medical staff to resolve complex coding issues and provide expert guidance on billing-related inquiries.
• Partner with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team to optimize physician documentation, ensuring accurate code assignment and appropriate reflection of severity of illness.
• Facilitate cross-departmental communication to address operational challenges and support the broader needs of the Revenue Management cycle.
