Job summary

The Inpatient Coder at Cognizant is a remote role supporting one or more Cognizant clients. You will review medical documentation, assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS procedures, and query physicians to clarify documentation while aiming for high accuracy and quality.

You will work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced remote environment, maintaining an accuracy rate of 98% and meeting productivity targets, with Epic experience and knowledge of regulations guiding daily

Qualifications

• Three years of facility-based inpatient coding experience.
• Inpatient coding with ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience.
• Epic experience required.
• Knowledge of federal, state and payer regulations.
• Ability to interpret medical records and apply regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code diagnoses (ICD-10-CM) and procedures (ICD-10-PCS).
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign accurate codes using an electronic encoder per policy and guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders.
• Complete reports as requested.
• Maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 98%.
• Meet inpatient productivity: 16 encounters/day, 2/hr, 30 minutes per encounter.
• Work in multiple systems simultaneously.
• Coordinate with manager and team on time off and new procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
