Job summary

IKS Health is seeking an experienced Facility Inpatient Acute Care Medical Coder to join our remote-friendly team in the United States. You will review medical records, assign principal diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accurate DRG reporting according to client guidelines.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of IP coding for large acute care facilities, strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT rules, and the ability to work with Aquity applications and Google Suite.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Inpatient Medical and Surgical admissions.
• Minimum 3 years of current/recent IP coding experience.
• At least three years' experience coding IP facility charts for large acute care, Level 1 trauma centers.
• Understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, and payor-specific policies.
• Must pass inpatient coding proficiency test.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures.
• Selects principal diagnosis and principal procedure with other diagnoses using UHDDS.
• Ensures appropriate DRG assignment.
• Abstracts information from records per client guidelines; meet productivity and quality targets.
• Enter charts coded in real-time using Aquity applications during shifts.
• Solicit physician clarification on ambiguous documentation per client guidelines.
• Participate in team meetings and training; may shadow other coders; flex across clients to meet hours.
• Participate in Coding Roundtables and stay updated with Coding Clinic guidelines.
• Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines.
• Keep coding credentials up to date and active.
• Maintain professional communication and contribute to a positive image.
