Job summary

Southern Ohio Medical Center located in Portsmouth, OH is seeking a Health Information Management Coder Level I to assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for outpatient and limited inpatient records, ensuring accurate charging and compliance with coding guidelines.

The role requires medical terminology knowledge, enrollment in a coding training program within 90 days, and completion of certification within 1 year. Remote work is available with full-time hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; medical terminology required; anatomy & physiology course preferred; enrolled in a formal coding training program within 90 days of hire and completed within 1 year.
• Licensure: CPC, CPA or equivalent coding certification within 1 year of hire.
• Experience: Previous coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determines sequence of diagnoses according to guidelines for ER, same-day surgery, interventional radiology outpatient records, and inpatient records.
• Has knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and medical terminology to assure coding and charging accuracy.
• Maintains productivity and quality standards per work type and benchmarks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Pass the yearly HIM coding competency test at 70% or higher.
