Job summary

New Mexico Connections Academy, operated by Connections Education LLC, seeks a Home-based High School Counselor in New Mexico to guide students and families on course selection, graduation requirements, and post-secondary planning. You will coordinate with the Counseling Services Manager to establish processes for middle and high school students from a home office in NM.

Qualifications

• New Mexico service certification in High School Counseling.
• Strong technology skills, especially with Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Customer focused approach.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• High degree of flexibility.
• Team player with demonstrated leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel on occasion for marketing and state testing events.
• Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.

Responsibilities

• Advise students and families related to academics, career planning and graduation.
• Keep abreast of all high school graduation requirements and communicate with school leadership.
• Assist with course selection and develop a Four Year Plan for graduation.
• Assist with dropping courses and schedule changes; ensure policies are followed.
• Review transcripts and ensure accuracy and up-to-date records.
• Coordinate with school staff to obtain and forward records as needed.
• Implement programs for personal and interpersonal adjustment.
• Help families access school and community resources.
• Participate in crisis prevention and Student Support Team planning.
• Coordinate a team of teachers to identify at-risk students; act as main contact.
• Oversee and maintain the Personal Learning Plan for each student.
• Assist with withdrawal data collection and processing.
• Report critical incidents as required by law and policy.
• Support enrollment mid-semester student transitions with guidance to teachers.
• Coordinate curriculum alignment with state requirements.
• Implement AP, SAT/ACT preparation and college entrance initiatives.
• Facilitate administration of high school testing (PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP).
• Assist students with post-secondary options and applications.
• Educate on college admissions and financial aid.
• Support professional development for staff; teach electives if needed.
• Coordinate graduation ceremonies and other duties as assigned.
