Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is offering a National Remote position in the United States. The role supports hospital and payer accounting through collections, appeals, and denial management, with flexible 8-hour shifts within Pacific Time business hours.

You will work in the Patient Financial Services team to optimize reimbursements, balance accounts, and ensure accurate billing while adhering to HIPAA and internal policies. Training occurs in the first month, then ongoing operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 1+ years of hospital/facility collections experience including follow-up, appeals, and denied claims.
• 1+ years of Medicaid/Medi-Cal Managed Care follow-up, including handling appeals and denials.
• Experience navigating an insurance portal to work denied claims to resolution.
• Experience reviewing UB 04 claim forms, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to complete training during the first month (6:00 AM–2:30 PM PST).
• Ability to work an 8-hour shift, Mon–Fri, 6:00 AM–5:00 PM PST.

Responsibilities

• Performs collecting, reconciliation, research, correspondence, and independent problem solving.
• Reconciles complex, multi-payment accounts.
• Submits appeal letters on underpaid claims as directed.
• Interprets payer contracts to determine if payment/adjustment is accurate.
• Reviews EOBs for denials and posts corrected adjustments to balance accounts.
• Identifies process improvements in the PFS department.
• Promotes teamwork within the department and with other staff.
• Works with hospital departments for proper coding and billing procedures.
• Follows HIPAA and all policies and procedures.
