Mercury Insurance seeks a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple agile teams, guiding design, development, and maintenance of complex software systems while mentoring junior engineers.

You will collaborate with product managers to estimate effort, plan roadmaps, and drive code reviews, leveraging Java, Spring Boot, and microservices within a cloud-enabled environment. This role emphasizes architectural stewardship and delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years software engineering experience with multi-team leadership.
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.
• Proficiency in REST and gRPC APIs; familiar with data streaming and messaging systems.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality code for complex scenarios with good test coverage.
• Translate requirements into robust designs for modular, scalable distributed systems.
• Lead design and code reviews to ensure Mercury standards and high quality.
• Capable of guiding multiple sprint teams and removing impediments.
