Job summary

NuScale Power seeks a Fuels Engineer 2 to advance fuel thermal-mechanical analyses using standard industry methods and to contribute to core design, neutronics, and licensing interfaces. You will collaborate with Thermal Hydraulics, Code Development, and Nuclear Methods teams to support SMR deployment and licensing bases.

The role emphasizes execution of licensed TM methods while contributing to neutronics evaluation and method development under senior staff guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 3 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience implementing engineering design processes for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis; core design and neutronics experience preferred.
• Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
• Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Build and update fuel TM models consistent with the SMR product design and licensing basis.
• Perform fuel TM evaluations in accordance with licensed methods, supporting design, safety evaluations, and reload assessments.
• Prepare cycle-specific TM outputs supporting reload core design and safety analysis.
• Interpret neutronics evaluations for core performance and fuel design impacts.
• Perform cross-functional reviews for fuel-related content or impacts.
• Perform core design and neutronics analysis for cycle design and reloads.
• Support development of advanced fuel TM methods under guidance from senior staff.
• Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and other design documents.
• Grow technical depth in fuel performance, neutronics and thermal-hydraulic integration.
• Develop resolutions to challenging problems with creativity and innovation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
